"Count to Ten.
Stop and think about a violence free future."
"It's not enough
to cringe at the thought, sight, or sound of domestic violence.
It's not enough to care. There's something you can do. That's what
Count to Ten is all about. It's about stopping and thinking, then
becoming an active part of the solution. As a community. As a business.
As one individual."

The Count to
Ten action kit produced by the Fresno County Human Services System,
in conjunction with community partners and sponsors, is a captivating
set of materials designed for the general public and community leaders
alike. The kit includes facts and statistics designed to increase
public awareness of the overlapping incidence of domestic violence
and child abuse. Printed in gritty, eye-catching camouflage tones,
the kit also includes a set of pull-out sheets describing clear
and concrete steps community members can take to participate in
the Count to Ten initiative. At the heart of the campaign is a volunteer
speakers' bureau. Community members are encouraged to sign up for
training with the speakers' bureau and to give presentations on
domestic violence to local businesses, church groups, and community
organizations. The action kit also contains flyers about ways to
contribute to violence prevention programs for children and teens,
including the kNOw MORE Teen Peer Education Project. The kit was
first produced in 1996 and is usually updated each year.
Recommended
as a sample campaign kit that community-based groups, public health
departments, or collaborative partners may want to use in designing
their own local campaign initiatives.
