Impact: Feature Issue on Violence Against Women
with Developmental or Other Disabilities

This special edition of Impact includes thirteen articles on the topic of abuse of women with developmental and other disabilities. Multiple perspectives are presented in the selection of articles, including those of researchers, public policy analysts, service providers and disability rights advocates. One article describes how difficult it is to obtain accurate statistics on the incidence of violence against women with disabilities, given that disability characteristics are rarely documented in crime reports and national surveys reporting on abuse and violence. Strategies and ideas for preventing violence against people with disabilities are highlighted in several articles. Also emphasized is the need for closer collaboration among the various organizations, individuals and service systems that have a stake in ending abuse of people with disabilities--including domestic violence and sexual assault programs and law enforcement agencies.
