"Work to end
domestic violence today."
"The workplace
may not be a safe haven when violence, or threats of violence, come
to work. Make sure that your company is doing all it can to help
its employees free themselves from violence at home."
A host of action
ideas, clear step-by-step instructions and compelling reasons for
addressing domestic violence issues as they impact employees and
the workplace setting are neatly organized in the Family Violence
Prevention Fund's Worker to Worker action kit. Ideas and resources
for formal and informal workplace activities that either managers
or employees can initiate are included in the kit. A checklist of
company domestic violence policies, a sample newsletter article,
and a workplace safety plan are among the resource materials the
kit provides, with the suggestion that workers bring these materials
and suggestions to the attention of management and Human Resource
Department personnel. The kit also offers posters and safety cards
that can be placed in employee lounges or restrooms and a handout
listing guidelines for talking with a co-worker who is being abused.
Complete instructions and resource materials for hosting a brown
bag lunch seminar on domestic violence are also provided. These
include an audio-taped story of a survivor, a quiz for testing knowledge
of and attitudes about domestic violence, and a fact sheet describing
the ways domestic violence affects the workplace.
Recommended
for employers and employees interested in fostering domestic violence
awareness and safety planning in the workplace setting.
