Domestic Violence Toolkit
This set of practical tools was designed to make it easier for doctors and other health care professionals to help domestic violence victims access services and support. Health care professionals are uniquely positioned to help battered women in outpatient clinic and office settings as well as in hospitals and emergency rooms. This toolkit serves as a basic "start-up" kit for doctors to use in their clinic practices. The kit includes two domestic violence awareness posters that can be hung at discrete locations in the office, pocket cards for patients, and informational materials for doctors and their staff. The reference guide for physicians provides background information about domestic violence, tips for screening patients, forms for documenting injuries and listings of referral resources. A brochure describes Michigan domestic violence laws and reporting requirements for physicians. Although legal information and resources are specific to the state of Michigan, the kit serves as a model that can be adapted for use in other states and regions of the country.
Recommended for health care service providers and public health educators.
