Domestic Violence In Lesbian, Gay, Transgender and Bisexual Communities
Designed for educating service providers in health care, mental health, social service and corrections settings, this trainer's manual offers a carefully-scripted, well-organized set of materials for conducting an intensive, eight-hour workshop on abuse in lesbian, gay, transgender and bisexual (LGTB) relationships. Everything needed to present the workshop--lecture notes, exercises, handouts, power point slides, sample protocols and supplementary readings--are included. Exercises allow participants to examine their own biases as well as prevailing cultural myths and stereotypes concerning abuse in LGTB relationships. Basic gender identity and sexual orientation terms and issues are introduced in the first two modules. In later sections, the curriculum offers increasingly fine-tuned and complex understandings of the safety risks, service barriers, bias and stigma that impact LGTB individuals seeking help for relationship abuse. Among the topics covered are partner notification of HIV status and screening for abuse; differentiating between abuser and victim in same sex relationships; and understanding the "triple jeopardy" experienced by LGBT people of color who are abused.

Recommended for health care workers, social service professionals, domestic violence advocates and batterers' treatment program staff.
