Abuse And Women With Disabilities
In this article, authors Margaret Nosek and Carol Howland discuss highlights of several research studies reporting on the incidence and correlates of relationship abuse of women with disabilities. The authors note that women with disabilities experience higher rates of abuse than non-disabled women and are vulnerable to sexual and emotional abuse by health care workers and personal care attendants, in addition to husbands and intimate partners. The "In Brief" report attached to the study includes an incisive set of recommendations for making domestic violence services more accessible to women with disabilities and for developing cross-training programs for domestic violence and disability service staff.
