A Workshop for Faith Leaders and Domestic Violence Prevention Advocates

Participants will receive an official Certificate of Completion, signed by CDPH.
7 contact hours of continuing education for MFT/LCSW/RN available!

This workshop will focus on fostering collaborative relationships between faith leaders and domestic violence prevention advocates while discussing strategies for combining efforts and expertise to better serve our communities. Discussions will include prevention strategies, steps for community collaboration, and sharing the expertise and experience of participants. This workshop fosters a peer-to-peer learning environment, offering time for safe and honest dialogue, as well as for sharing promising practices with each other. Participants will take home a tool for developing a concrete plan to collaborate with community partners to address domestic violence.

Learning objectives include the following:
- Identify challenges and benefits of working with each other;
- Develop mutual understanding of causes, influences, and dynamics of domestic violence
- Consider efforts to prevent abuse;
- Explore how faith/spiritual perspectives can perpetuate or challenge viewpoints regarding abusive relationships;
- Determine how to appropriately assist those in need, including looking at organizational practices and policies;
- Share and learn strategies for collaborating;
- Consider efforts to prevent abuse before it takes place; and
- Develop a concrete action plan for next steps.

Participants are strongly encouraged to invite and attend with a community faith leader. This can be an existing or a new partnership. Contact TC-TAT if you would like assistance identifying a local leader to attend this workshop with you. There will also be opportunities to network with other community members and service providers.

This workshop is offered to community members as well as volunteers and employees who provide services and support to those affected by domestic violence, such as: faith community leaders and members; domestic violence advocates; public and mental health care providers; social workers; educators; law enforcement; and others.
